We started brewing organic beer for one reason: it tastes better. We had to be in control of the entire process, “from seed to sip”. Then we figured we could do some other good things—things that might have a positive impact. It’s a philosophy that runs through the entire company. From using recycled materials to burning less fuel, we try to lower our carbon footprint everyday, never compromising on our goal to brew the world’s finest beer.
Brecknock is Canada’s only vertically integrated organic beer. That’s just a fancy way of saying from the barley seed planted in spring right through to harvest and the brewing process all the way to your first (and every) sip, we’re organic. No nasty herbicides, pesticides or chemical additives — there’s nothing to get between you and all that beery goodness.
Instead of building a big brewery, we use excess capacity at your local brewery. We use ridiculously stringent standards to pick breweries that can handle our organic needs. That way we can help your local economy, get our beer to market without shipping it a long way in big trucks and get the freshest possible beer in your hands.
Granted it’s a much shorter distance, but we still have to ship our beer to market. To make the best of it, we ship it in smaller trucks using bio-diesel. That helps farmers and the environment, and every little bit of help, helps.
